I am in the process of building a "Dune Buggy" and in order to install a set of headers on the engine (VW type 3) I had to remove the upright fan housing and the generator. My questions are : #1. If I don't remount the generator, how long can I expect to operate the engine on just the battery alone? There are no accessories to run just the engine ignition. If it would last 4 - 5 hours before running down the battery I wouldn't bother with the generator. #2. The engine is in an open type tubing frame..will there be enough air flow to keep the engine cool without the fan? I have removed all of the shrouding from around the cylinder heads. I only plan to use the "buggy" for riding on the Michigan sand dunes. Steve Lorenz AT&T Technologies Montgomery Works ihnp4!mgweed!spl

No sweat unless you stall it. 2) the fan not only blows air over the cylinder fins but also the oil cooler (or did you install an aftermarket?). I think you will severly overheat your motor.
