F(ree) R(ocket) O(ver) G(round) series missiles were
introduced by the USSR in 1957 as the LUNA.

Currently in use in the FROG 7.  The 7a has a 1,213 lb nuclear
warhead, and the 7b can carry a 860 lb chemical warhead.

FROG-7 has a single-stage spin-stabilized solid propellant
engine on an unguided rocket.  The 30 minute setup time for
the missile does not include the time required to set up and
operate meterological radars needed to gain maximum accuracy.

THE SS-21 "SCARAB" (USSR-"TOCKHA") HAS SUPERCEDED THE FROG AND
the Iraqis have at least one brigade (18 launchers).  Syria
reportedly has a 12 launcher brigade.

THE SCARAB IS A SOLID-PROPELLANT SINGLE-STAGE ROCKET CAPABLE
of carrying HE, nuclear, chemical, or cluster munitions.
