Jewell" <JEWELLLW@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU> I saw a show during the summer where the people were working to make a fusion of ceramics and aluminum to make hard armor that wouldn't shatter on the first hit. The techique shown was to melt aluminum into the ceramic to give it some flex. They fired a 75mm round into a sheet of the composite and it stopped it. It was a square hit and the thickness, if I remember rightly was about 50mm (2 in.). Any non-classified informa- tion available? (I think this was a Bay-area college.)
