The G5 howitzer is a direct development out of Gerald Bull's CG-45 design.
Bull, a Canadian/American (dual citizen) expatriate, was one of the world's
premier ballistics experts. He headed up the HARP program which involved
shooting 16 inch projectiles to extreme altitudes during the 1950's and 1960's.

Bull was murdered in March 1990 outside his apartment in Brussels, and was
reputedly involved in the large-bore 'supergun' project for the government of
Iraq.
