From: dsndata!mlewis@unocss.unomaha.edu (mlewis) Again, replying without attributions. The detailed description of how to get the filters out of an M17 brought a wide smile to my face. I remember. More cussing though. Sometime in 1979, in Berlin, we tested (wore throughout a shift) a new type of mask. This honey was made of a clear plastic bubble with cannister-type filters. Normal use was one filter, but if you were active and needed more air, you could screw on another. Most of us tried to keep the second one on, because even sitting down you felt short of breath. It was donnable in half the time, and filters were changeable in teh field. Whatever happened to this thing? If the AF was going to buy it (and if we had ANY input, they would) they should have been fielded by now.
