<Eat my Volvo> I am the (not yet proud) owner of a 1984 Volvo Station Wagon DL - manual transmission, and I have a fairly major problem. Every time I start the car and accelerate, the engine will shut off and then pick up again once the engine has slowed down to approximately 1000-1500 rpm. This happens only once after the engine has been started and seems to be completely independent of the engine temperature. A related problem is that when the engine is warming up (temperature approx 75% of normal), it will shut off after passing a given (quite moderate) rpm. and pick up as in the previous case. This problem persists until the engine has reached normal operating temperature. The shut-off is very smooth in both cases - as if I had turned the ignition off - and the engine will pick again without hesitation. I have brought the car to the dealer 3 times already, and as far as I can tell, they do not have a clue (they said something like "set as per Volvo specs"....). Has anybody had the same problem, or an idea of what it could be?
