MLRS is alive and well. It is not, to the best of my knowledge, fully
fielded. Most,if not all, Armor/Mech Divisions have one battery of
MLRS and each of the European Corps Artillery Brigades have at least
two battalions of MLRS rounded out with 8 inch. (8 inch is being
phased out, but last I checked it was not all replaced with MLRS.)
I do not have aa good handle on the status of MLRS fielding in the
continental US. It is reputed by my Artillery breathern to be the true
"King of Battle." The range of the system is classified but I know
that the minimum is about 20km with the max range somewhere in excess
of 70km. I can not recall the types of munitions available, but I
believe DPICM is the standard round. If there are any Artillerymen out
there who have better data I bow to their knowledge.

P.S. DPICM will kill or disable anything currently on the battlefield.
Remember a mobility kill or weapon system kill is as good as a
catistrophic kill, especially to a grunt.

I thought the readers would be interested in a couple things that Mr.
Jewell left out. Namely the fact that the MLRS is advertised as being capable
of taking out an entire grid square in a single fire-mission. Also, the text
lists under ten minutes for reloading -- I have talked with NCO's in Arty that
have done it in less than half that time, or so they claim.

Each half of the MLRS launcher can be loaded a six-rocket pod or a bloody
enormous rockets - giving three different weapon loads..
