I recently bought an Escort (radar detector) and I am
pleased with the results so far. I am considering remote
mounting for it, but I ran into one little snag:
HOW DO I GET THE *#$@&%* THING OPEN???
My guess is that I have to pry off the plastic trim on
either the front or the back of the thing, but I hate to try
unless I'm sure I know what I'm doing. Has anyone out there
successfully opened an Escort without destroying it? Any
advice on remote mounting would be greatly appreciated.

I too am interested in a remote mounting of my Escort radar detector.
One reason I have for a remote mounting is this: Do our good "friends" in blue
(or whatever color your local police wear) get angry at Escort users
and hand out tickets for petty offenses like 59 (or less) in a 55 zone
or burnt out lights when they would normally either give warnings or
ignore you completely?
Also, does anybody know which states prohibit the use of radar detectors?
I hear they can confiscate your detector if you are using it "illegally",
is this true?
Do I sound paranoid? Maybe I am. I have had very bad
luck with the cops lately (hence the purchase of my Escort).
I would appreciate answers to any of the preceeding questions (with
possible exception to the last one). Thanks.

There have been enough questions about remote mounting of Escorts lately that I thought I'd mention my solution-- a Super Fox. This guy comes remote mounted. I've never had any trouble with mine, and it has seen a lot of use. Lately, the manufacturers have been advertising the same sort of false-alarm protection that the Escort has, although mine doesn't have it. By the way, somebody has been advertising an Escort remote-mount in the back of Road & Track lately. "55 MPH -- A Law We Can Live Without" -Joe P.
