From: anthony@batserver.cs.uq.oz.au (Anthony Lee) Sometime ago someone asked about the M42 Duster. Here's some information: "After the end of the war (WWII) a new family of light vehicles was developed this including a light tank called the M41 (or Walker Bulldog) while the anti-aircraft gun system which had the same automotive components but a different hull was called the M42 or more commonly the Duster....The turret and weapons are power-operated; the turret can be traversed through 360 degrees at 40 degrees per second and the guns can be elevated from -3 degrees to + 85 degrees at speed of 25 degrees per second....A total of 480 rounds of ammunition is carried, and the guns have a practical rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute per barrel wiht an effective anti-aircraft range of 5000M... The M42 is essentially a clear-weather weapon as its fire-control system consists of M38 computing sight, M24c reflex sight and a speed ring sight..."-[1] As for the design of the M60 GPMG: "The M60 is a general-purpose machine-gun that can trace its origins back to the latter period of WWII, when it was known as the T44. The design was greatly influenced by the new German machine-gun designs: the ammunition feed is a direct lift from the MG42, and the piston and bolt assembly was copied form the revolutionary 7.92mm FG42...."-[1] Source: The Encyclopedia of World Military Power Editors: Chris Bishop and Ian Drury Publisher: Temple Press/Aerospace -- Anthony Lee (Michaelangelo teenage mutant ninja turtle) (Time Lord Doctor) ACSnet: anthony@batserver.cs.uq.oz TEL:+(61)-7-365-2697 (w) Internet: anthony@batserver.cs.uq.oz.au SNAIL: Dept Comp.
