From: ucc1q@jetson.uh.edu (A JETSON News User) I wish we still had the Pershing II missiles. We could have placed them in northern Saudi Arabia on scud watch. When a scud would launch we locate the launch site with radar systems, feed coordinates into the Pershing and launch. This way the Patriots get the SCUDs and the Pershing get the launchers. Would have been nice if the Pershing also had a thermal tracker. The thermal signature left by a scud launch on the launch site would be large.

From: ucc1q@jetson.uh.edu (Phillip Glendinning) continuation of my previous post on this subject. 1. use cluster bomb warhead. 2. Pershing is a solid booster system. much faster to ready and launch ( fast like a Patriot). time between SCUD launch and Pershing warhead deploying is too short for the transporter/launcher to move very far. 3. Pershing is much more acurrate at range then other missiles in USA inventory. 4. if the SCUD system launch radar can be spotted before launch the Pershing could hit before the Scud is launched, getting the ground crew and maybe fuel trucks as well( fuel and oxidizer are hauled by separate trucks I would greatly hope). if this is true then a thermal seeker would track on the hot engines of the trucks. disclaimer: all these ideas are based on general information from which I have extroplated. these ideas could be very good or very bad. comments welcome.
