From: Zoran Ren <cgren@pyramid.swansea.ac.uk> A request concerning weapons systems of Soviet aircrafts was posted to this newsgroup a while ago. Since then most of the aircraft received some attention, apart from MiG-29. Therefore I tried my best and gathered all available data on MiG-29 weapons load, mostly from my books and magazines. The MiG-29 carried weapons range is: 1. GSh-301 multi-barreled 30 mm cannon (170 rounds) 2. AA-8 Aphid IR-homing short range 'dogfight' AAM 3. AA-11 Archer IR-homing short range 'dogfight' AAM (the Soviet ASRAAM) 4. AA-7 Apex SAR or IR homing medium range AAM 5. AA-10 Alamo A and B, AR and IR homing fire-and-forget medium range AAM 6. AA-9 Amos long range fire-and-forget AAM 7. AS-7 Kerry medium range tactical ASM (and the variety of ASM) 8. 2,205 lb bombs (and other smart or dumb bombs) 9. 18 x 57 mm rocket pack 10. cluster bomb There is probably some more armament available for this versatile aircraft of which I am not aware. I would be glad of any additional information about MiG-29 as well as about Su-27. Can anybody describe to me how proximity fuses in AAM work?
