From: mdlouie@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu (Michael D. Louie) This morning, I attended a NATO briefing for my American foriegn policy class. The briefing was conducted by three NATO naval officers, one from the Royal Netherlands Navy, one from US Navy, and the other from the German Navy. The talk was concerning the history and future of NATO, itself. Aside from my own, there was an Air Force ROTC class, in attendance. At any rate, after the formal briefing was over, I went up and asked one of the officers whether or not Germany had possession of Soviet export hardware, now that West Germany absorbed its eastern half. His answer was yes, Germany has all of East Germany's military hardware. Also, to those who were wondering whether NATO has Soviet forces in NATO, that answer is no, we don't...they are autonomous and will be removed back to the USSR. To the rest of you wondering why I got to go to a NATO briefing, I haven't the faintest idea, but it was intriguing. Any questions, just E-mail me. -- Michael Louie Major: History The University of Texas at Austin Internet: mdlouie@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu
