From: alan@berlioz.nsc.com I recently picked up a set of Operation Desert Shield trading cards put out by Pacific Trading Cards and while looking through them I was happy to see the 82d ABN DIV well accounted for (being an ex-trooper). One card in particular caught my eye. Card #7 shows a group of men moving out on patrol. Apparently it is a weapons platoon since the most prominent person in the photo is carrying a mortar base plate on his back. My question is: back when I was 11C (in the '70's) we had the M274A4 Mule to carry our base plates, bipods, tubes, ammo, and anything else we could fit. Has the advent of the HMMWV eliminated the Mule from a Company's TO&E, or did the Division decide not to deploy any Mules? I really feel for the poor guys having to hump that equipment in sand! -- Alan Hepburn "God grants liberty only to those who love it, National Semiconductor and are always ready to guard and defend it."
