Douglas Boom's naval trivia quiz sparked some thinking and I came up
with some more, and hopefully very challenging questions:

1) What US Navy battleship that was damaged at Pearl Harbor 7 December,
1941 later bombarded German positions on D-Day, 6 June, 1944?

2) What do the past two Chiefs of Naval Operations, Admirals Carlisle
A.H. Trost and Frank B. Kelso, and the former Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs Admiral William J. Crowe have in common (besides being in the
Navy and being the same rank ;-) )?

3) Which WWII RAF squadron sank the German battleship Tirpitz and what
was that squadron's other main claim to fame?

4) Identify the speaker of this quote and the situation behind it:
"[He] is the only man who could lose the war in a day."

5) Who was the only surviving pilot from the Torpedo 8 Squadron of the
USS Hornet in the Battle of Midway, 4-6 June, 1942?

6) Who designed the first tracked landing vehicle (LVT) for the United
States Marine Corps?

7) In the US Navy, what ship was designated LPH 1 and what happened to her?

8) What was the only US Navy fleet carrier to survive the entire Second
World War from Pearl Harbor to V-J Day?

9) What did blimp-escorted convoys accomplish during the Second World
War in the Atlantic?

10) Who was the fourth and (for now) final USN Admiral of the Fleet
(five stars)?

BONUS) Who said "We have met the enemy and they are ours."?

Have fun. All replies should be sent to me. If you get stuck, I can
send hints or the answers.
