From: "Larry W. Jewell" <JEWELLLW@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU> On the morning news they had an article from Lawrence-Livermore Labs. in Ca. To me the most interesting item was CERMET. It was made by taking a block of ceramic material and melting a block of aluminum into it. This imparted the deformability of aluminum to the hardness of ceramic. The possibilities for armour-plating are intriguing. Anyone have any more information on this? (Declass. of course, "Me no spy, GI!") (On a side note, they were showing some of the shells they were shooting for tests and they had an empty 6" or 8" (I can't keep the small stuff straight :-) shell casing sitting on the bench. Personally, I will NOT work in a lab where they are firing off 8" rounds indoors!:-). -- Larry W. Jewell direct replies to JEWELLLW@VM.CC.PURDUE.EDU
