Just some quick questions:

1) Anybody know of a reference where I could find the names of current Soviet
submarines? Or do the Soviets not name them?

2) Have the YF-22 and YF-23 been named yet?

3) Anybody know the status of the SSN-21 Seawolf program? Have any names
    other than "Seawolf" been allocated?

4) Finally, what is the status of the Vertical Launch System conversion of
the Spruance class destroyers? Are all of them going to be converted?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Jane's Fighting Ship doesn't list the Soviet subs individually - only
by class. Why don't you try the Soviet Embassy? (grin)

>2) Have the YF-22 and YF-23 been named yet?

I don't think so; at least, Jane's All The World's Aircraft 1990-91
does not list any name.

SSN 21 (SEAWOLF):
Builder: General Dynamics (Electric Boat Division)
    Start Date: 28 Oct 1989
    Launched: Jan 1994
    Commissioned: May 1995

First of this class (SEAWOLF) ordered on 9 Jan 1989; $1.687 billion
funded in FY 1991 for her construction. $3.482 billion being sought
in FY 1991 for construction of next two ships in class, the first which
is to be built by Newport News. The Navy will be seeking a class of
about 30.

>4) Finally, what is the status of the Vertical Launch System conversion of

Beginning with FY 1986 overhauls, major improvements are being made
to this class that will enable the Spruance class to be effective ASW
ships into the twenty-first century. Improvements include the installation
of VLS, upgrading of EW to SLQ 32V(3); LAMPS III and the recovery, assist,
secure and traverse system (RAST), the Halon 1301 firefighting system
and anti-missile and target acquisition systems. VLS Mk 41 ships will
in due course be capable of launching Standard SM-2MR for control by
Aegis fitted vessels.
