Scenario: You've just dropped off your kid somewhere, and kid walks behind the car to get where he/she is going. What gear is your car in? (I generally have my foot on the brake, and maybe the car in park, when I drop people off. Never the emergency brake unless I'm getting out.) Scenario 2: You have to get something out of your trunk. You put the car in park, and out on the emergency brake for safety. Your Ford transmission decides to jump, and you have the standard Ford "Let the car go backwards, just not forwards" emergency brake.
