From: pms2@jaguar.uofs.edu If you haven't heard, the list of bases to be closed came out Friday. Thought I'd like to share fellow netters what closes, so here goes: [Discussions of the base closings is inappropriate for sci.military, but the list is probably of interest to many readers so I'll pass it along. Thanks. --CDR] Alabama Ft. McClellan Arizona Williams A.F.B. Arkansas Ft. Chaffee, Eaker A.F.B. California Ft. Ord, Sacramento Army Depot, Long Beach N.S., Hunters Point Annex, Moffett Field (Navy), Castle A.F.B., Marine Corps Air Station Tustin (El Toro) Colorado Lowry A.F.B. Florida Naval Training Center, Orlando Georgia Moody A.F.B. Indiana Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Grissom A.F.B. Louisiana England A.F.B. Maine Loring A.F.B. Massachusets Ft. Carolina Myrtle Beach A.F.B. Texas Chase Field Naval Air Station, Bergstrom A.F.B., Carswell A.F.B. Washington Sand Pt. Naval Station, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station I will say that the list looks interesting from the point that 14 involve the USAF, 7 with the Army, and the rest the Navy (one Marine). One other bit of news - the 4/8 issue of _AW&ST_ reports that the USAF will not phase out the F-4G Wild Weasals yet. What strikes me as odd is that they would want to use an F-16 platform as a successor. Why not the F-15?? Do they have something against two engines in a fighter???
