I am having two problems with my '78 VW Dasher station wagon. 1. Water leak. In rain or when the car is washed the carpet on the driver's side gets wet. The drops come off the hood release handle. I have sealed the point where the hood release cable goes through the firewall with RTV, with no apparent effect. The windshield seal appears to be intact. 2. Fuel smell. Lately (last few months), when the car is cold, such as after being parked all day at work or after being parked overnight, sometimes there is a gasoline smell right after starting. It only happens about half the time under these circumstances and never with a warm engine. The smell does not persist, nor is there any visible sign of a fuel leak.
