From: deichman@cod.nosc.mil (Shane D. Deichman) A colleague of mine has noticed a rather startling correlation between sunspot number and the eruption of major conflicts. For instance, the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 was preceded by a sunspot maximum in August of that year; the Normandy invasion in June of 1944 occured at a similarly significant time. There are a number of other rather startling "coincidences." I would appreciate it if the readers of this newsgroup could recommend an encyclopedia or reference which lists major conflicts (any nation) of the past two centuries. Also, any comments (with dates) regarding significant events would be greatly appreciated. This is still in the "blue sky" exploratory stage, but I'll be certain to post any significant developments here. (Legend has it that increased sunspot numbers cause insanity; this research may prove a correlation which should not be taken to out- weigh other, more relevant and "visible" parameters as socioeconomic and religious considerations.) Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. Please respond via e-mail and save Carl the hassle of turning you down! :-) [Thanks for the thoughtfulness in your closing paragraph! --CDR] -shane (deichman@cod.nosc.mil)
