A long time back I asked for experience on the life expectancy and repair costs on a Rabbit clutch. I got about 10 responses, out of which only one person with a Sirrocco driven 80K miles in the hills had replaced a clutch. Several of my respondents had over 130K miles on their car with no troubles. (One replaced a throw-out bearing for a cost of $6 in parts in 1/2 hour of work). At least one of these cars had been driven quite hard. From this I would conclude that apparently the clutch is likely to last a lifetime. I have no information on what is involved in repair, but it sounds like it's unlikely anyway. (The other thing that I observe from my informal survey is that in spite of some well publicized early problems, rabbits must last a long time to get as many high mileage respondents as I got.) Thanks to all who replied. Sorry for the long delay. -- Warren Montgomery ihnss!warren IH x2494
