This has been proven operationally (well, in wargames anyway) to   
be simply not true. One of the nasty facts about an f-15E is that it   
retains its AS sister's air-to-air capability. In red-flag excercises,   
when the F-15Es were equipped with AMRAAMS, the apposing force managed   
to draw off the assigned escorts only to be shot down by the Es. There   
were no cases of forced weapons salvo in the attack group, and the   
strike went as planned.
