This does not necessarily apply to the B-52's in Vietnam.   There were
then in the USAF inventory more than 700 B-52's.  For the first few
years, only -B and -D versions were sent to SE Asia.  These were the
oldest and least valuable of the B-52's in the strategic sense and in
addition, they were only about 100 of the existing 700 a/c fleet.
