From: schuette@orion.nrl.navy.mil (Larry Schuette) As I recall ("German Jets In Combat", by Ethell & Price is a good source) the much awaited meeting of the Meteor and German Jets never occured. I think what Time/Life books meant to say was that a Meteor intercepted an Argus powered Fi 103 (V 1 buzz bomb), which I suppose could be construed as a German Jet Bomber, albeit unmanned. Incidentally, the Germans were aware that the V1 was vulnerable and went to great lengths to "tune" the pulse jet and raise the speed of the V-1 from 600 to 760 Km/hr. The best text on the V-1 (IMHO) is "History of German Guided Missle Development", by Benecke and Quick. Lawrence C.
