From: Randy Nelson VE3WRN <rnelson@watserv1.waterloo.edu> I would appreciate it very much if someone would send me line by line the information contained in a military dog tag. I have never seen one and am interested in what it contains. Please reply by e-mail. [If only we had a FAQ! From: Robert_Bell@mindlink.bc.ca (Robert Bell) Well its a while since I wore dog tags so I'm going from memory. As far as British army dog tags go,they definately contain the following information.Name rank and number, also i think they also had our blood group and religion. Our dog tags were basically a piece of string with two metal disks on the end,if you got killed one was removed for documentation and the other was tied around your anckle. -- Robert Bell uunet!van_bc!rsoft!mindlink!a1076 Benndorf-Verster a1076@mindlink.uucp Vancouver Canada voice 604-853-5870

From: wilko@idca.tds.PHILIPS.nl (W.C. Bulte) Dutch dog tags consist of a single stainless steel plate. The plate is perforated in the middle, both halves contain identical information. The idea is to break the plate when someone gets killed, leave the end with the chain on the owner and the other half is shipped back for the records departement. Information provided is: Name, serial number (well ok, id number =date-of-birth and a 3 digit serial #), blood type and religion. No rank, as far as i remember. -- Wilko Bulte Domain: wilko@idca.tds.philips.nl System Engineering uucp : [mcsun,hp4nl]!philapd!wilko Philips Information Systems Nederland phone: +31 55-432372 fax: +31 55-432103
