From: Suku <R2RS1%AKRONVM@vm1.cc.UAKRON.EDU> Hi Guys Have a very basic query on armoured vehicles, especially tanks. What is the normal armour thickness on armoured vehicles, mainly front and sides. A few examples would help. There's been so much on armour penetration like 660mm it seems hard to imagine frontal armour on a tank that is more than half a meter thick. Other than reactive armour is this armour just steel or is it made in layers in some kinda special way. If this is too basic post replies to me, if not possibly others on the net might like to know. -- R SUKUMAR R2RS1@VM1.CC.UAKRON.EDU THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON - DEPT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

From: Eric_S_Klien@cup.portal.com Well, since no one has answered your question, I'll tell you the little that I know. When you hear about 660mm penetration of armor, this means penetration of normal armor. The advanced composite and reactive armors can give you about 660mm of protection with only 300-400mm of actual armor. Eric Klien
