[alt.fax] JetFax from Hybrid Fax Inc

sreekanth@rgb.dec.com (Jon Sreekanth) (06/29/90)

A company called Hybrid Fax Inc makes a product called JetFax. I just got
some promotional material in my mail. JetFax is a box that goes between the
phone line and a laser printer, and it prints incoming faxes on the printer.
It sells for $1200 list.

Am I missing something here ? A throwaway XT with a $200 fax card will do
everything this $1200 machine (with $195 for "software") will do. The glossy
ad also says the box can store upto 30 or 60 faxes; a PC with a hard disk
will store at least 10 times as much.

Is it just that the business market prefers a simple out-of-the-box solution ?

I haven't had much response to my query, except Steve from Tustin, CA, sent
email to say that convenience was pretty much it. Also, "size and admin issues"
are a big part of the purchase decision.

Does anyone know if other vendors make similar boxes ?
