LOOKING OR SMART LANGUAGE TEACHWARE AND (BI-/MULTI-)LINGUAL VOCABULARY DATABASES I'm about to write a program designed to assist in language learning. Thinking economically, I first took a good lock at what's to be had from public domain. But I didn't find any of the programs I've checked really convincing (not mentioning various irritating bugs). What I was looking for, was a program incorporating some clever algorithms concerning the optimization of the processus of learning itself. The main problem to be resolved using this approach is how to determine exactly to which extend a vocabulary item is learned and how program flow can be adapted to take different degrees of <learning-success> into account. To put it short, if you remember correctly from the start, that 'car wash' equals 'Autowaschstrasse' in German, you might lose your temper having it asked from you the 20th time around. Alors, if anyone knows of a program to which this description applies or has suggestions on how such a system should be implemented, I'd be very grateful if he'd let me know. I've got yet another request along with this one. Naturally, a vocabulary learning program needs a lexical database to operate upon. So I'm asking for anyone who might want to submit his or her database however small it might be. As others too might be interested I pray you state if you grant that your database be made available on the news. As to languages, I'm principally interested in GERMAN - ENGLISCH - FRENCH - ITALIAN - SPANISCH. That's it, thanks for your attention and I'll be glad to hear your suggestions or remarks. merci, d'avance Jochen Stein stein@fernuni-hagen.de
