How about a connection to the IEEE Service Center and the Washington office too? Our student branch is planning an S-PAC for next year and we've found it difficult to reach some people to ask for information, etc. It would be great if we could send our inquiries to these places and get speedy replies. I think it's better than having an answering machine do the job at our office... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IEEE Student Branch Office: (413) 545-0641 ECE Department Network: ieeesb@ecs.umass.edu Marston 137 University of Massachusetts Springfield Section, Region 1 Amherst, MA 01003 Amherst, Massachusetts. You now have such a connection! 'ieeefs.UUCP' (soon to change to 'ieeefs.ieee.org' as soon as the domain name is approved) is located in the Piscataway Service Center in the Field Services department. The following aliases will enable you to get mail to the associated departments: (most should be self-explanatory) field-services@ieeefs.UUCP member-services@ieeefs.UUCP membership-info@ieeefs.UUCP student-services@ieeefs.UUCP potentials@ieeefs.UUCP interface@ieeefs.UUCP Once the machine 'ieee.ieee.org' is in place at Rutgers, it will serve as the "master" mail-router for IEEE. I will be compiling a list of aliases to route mail for. You should then be able to send mail to anyone by sending to 'User.Name@ieee.org' and it will be re-routed appropriately. Since 'ieeefs' will also be the gateway to FidoNet BBS systems, users will also be able to have their mail routed to a FidoNet BBS, including what is known to the BBS community as "AlterNet". In the meantime, you can send entries for the alias list by sending mail to 'alias-request@ieeefs.UUCP'. Simply give the alias in the form: Firstname.Lastname<tab>user@machine.domain I will be doing most of the maintenance of the mailing list. At this time, there is no machine in Washington, DC, but that will come in due time once the pilot project gets under way. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Burt Juda - IEEE = The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Internet: burt@ieeefs.UUCP UUCP: ...!rutgers!njin!ieeefs!burt juda@pilot.njin.net BITNET: JUDA@NJIN COMPMAIL: 134:IEE491 merlin@mcastl.fidonet.org FidoNet: 1:107/310 Fax: 1-201-981-0027 Voice: 1-201-562-5510 (9-4,M-F) TELEX: 833233 Modem: 1-201-981-9190 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
