[comp.org.ieee] Spectrum in plastic wrap

blackje@sunspot.crd.ge.com (J. Emmett Black) (12/18/90)

I'm not altogether sure that Spectrum has contained
sufficient "good material" to continue receiving it ...
that's a matter of everyone's own needs, and whether
they have the time to read it ...

BUT; when an issue DOES have something of value in it,
I want to receive that issue intact, and without the
mangling that the US Postal Service tends to inflict.
The plastic bags ARE at least "USPS resistant" and I would
prefer to continue using them.

	- a shreded Spectrum is of zero value and
	  gets a quick trip to a land-fill;
they are difficult to recycle and occupy
more space than the plastic wrapper.
	- a paper wrapper results in more shreded Spectrums
(and the wrapper usually goes to the landfill with
	   the remains of the Spectrum)
	- a plastic wrapper is usually USPS resistant and:
		- usually delivers an INTACT Spectrum
		- CAN be recycled.

So, bottom line - I think we've had quite enough about
plastic bags and such on this newsgroup. This group is
supposed to be about IEEE, not about how publishers mail stuff,
nor about recycling, the environment or plastic .vs. paper...
How about using some of that energy on RECYCLING the BAGS
rather than griping about them?
Locally, we have to put plastics in a special container for
pickup and recycling (clear glass in another, etc.); perhaps
you can similarly recycle in your community ...
and leave this newsgroup to IEEE business.
