[comp.org.ieee] IEEE Logo

ieee@sdcc6.ucsd.edu (IEEE UCSD Branch) (04/26/91)

I've finally converted the scanned IEEE Logo to PostScript. The file
IEEELOGO.ZIP (approx. 39 Kbytes) contains:

PKUNZIP (R) FAST! Extract Utility Version 1.1 03-15-90
Copr. 1989-1990 PKWARE Inc. All Rights Reserved. PKUNZIP/h for help
PKUNZIP Reg. U.S. Pat. and Tm. Off.

and may be File Requested (IEEELOGO.ZIP), or downloaded (from File Area #4),
from the IEEE (San Diego) BBS: (619) 452-3131 (2400 bps for now...).

Burt, I've uploaded the file via anonymous ftp to ieee.org too.

Has anyone converted these bitmaps to splines using something such as
Adobe's Streamline package? The advantage is that PostScript file will
be VERY small and can also easily be scaled (note that it will not necessarily
scale well to small sizes without care - but it should work reasonably
well).

[For example the NSF logo with a minature globe, the letters for
"National Science Foundation" and the people holding hands around the
globe turns into about 900 lines (20K bytes) of PostScript. This is
one of the busiest logos I know of.]
