This was posted a few weeks ago but apparently the posting
failed. In case anyone saw the original, there one error has
been corrected in this version: the meeting will be held on
the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, not the second floor.
See you there.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL EIFFEL USER GROUP CONFERENCE
THE EIFFEL TOWER, PARIS
April 21, 1989
Call for participation and registration form
The Eiffel language and environment have attracted considerable
attention as a vehicle for applying object-oriented concepts to
practical software development in business as well as industrial and
scientific applications. A growing number of companies in the US,
Canada, Japan and Europe have adopted Eiffel and are applying it to
the production of software systems. Eiffel is also being
increasingly used by universities around the world for teaching
software engineering. The developers of Eiffel, Interactive Software
Engineering Inc., have announced their objective of making Eiffel one
of the major programming languages and environments for the end of
the 20th century.
The development of Eiffel has created a need for users to share
experiences and to interact with the developers on a systematic
basis. This has led to the organization of regular Eiffel User Group
conferences, currently scheduled twice a year, with a Winter/Spring
meeting in Europe and a Summer/Fall meeting in North America. The
first two conferences, held in Paris (January 1988) and San Diego
(September 1988) were instrumental in establishing contacts between
users with a variety of interests and backgrounds; they provided the
opportunity for many useful technical presentations.
The Third International Conference will be held in Paris on April 21,
1989. In honor of the first centennial of the Eiffel tower, the venue
of the conference is the conference room on the first floor of the
Tower. The conference will proceed all day, from 9am to 6pm, followed
by a reception.
The morning will be devoted to user presentations and the afternoon
to demonstrations and panel discussions. Representatives of
Interactive Software Engineering will give a preview of future
developments of Eiffel technology; the latest Eiffel release (2.2)
will be introduced at the conference.
The conference is open to Eiffel users and to anyone maintaining a
serious interest in Eiffel. Participants are invited to submit
contributions on Eiffel-related topics; contributions may be in the
form of technical presentations, demonstrations, or proposals for
working groups or panels. Authors of accepted contributions will
receive a discount on the registration fee.
Technical presentations may be submitted as either complete papers or
one-page abstracts. Examples include:
+ Reports on experiences with Eiffel.
+ Description of current or future projects.
+ Presentations of reusable components written in Eiffel.
+ Role of Eiffel for teaching software engineering, computer
science and other topics.
Reports of ongoing or incomplete work are acceptable. Presentations
may be made in either English or French.
Demonstrations of software written in Eiffel may also be submitted.
Workstations will be available.
Possible topics for working groups or panels are:
+ Procedures for sharing reusable classes between users.
+ Language standardization.
+ Using Eiffel for teaching.
+ User views on the evolution of the language, tools and
library.
+ User Group Activities.
