[net.auto] Leaf Spring Rearching

swc@cbscc.UUCP (Scott W. Collins) (07/12/84)

A short while ago I posted a query regarding what I should do about my
Plymouth Arrow spring problem. I received a few kind replies about
what I might do for it. Thanks to those few...

What I've tried so far is to have both rear springs re-arched to
(supposedly) factory specs and had a new (third) leaf added to each
side.

Now, it doesn't bottom out but it rides a tad high, is very stiff, and
doesn't ride well at all - in fact even rougher.

My next step seems to be to get a set of good shocks to ease the ride.
I figure at least gas shocks if not dual-action shocks. The stiffness
I can handle, but the abrubtness of the bumps is too much. I expect
air shocks aren't needed as the spring support is (too) good.

Any thoughts on this, readers? Again, if you will send me comments to
me directly (unless you feel it will enlighten a majority of the
subscribers) I will post a similar thing to this note when I've gotten
my problem solved.

A brief summary of what has been suggested to me re: springs -

	* Use air shocks
	* Buy a performance spring kit from Chrysler
	* Re-arch and/or add a leaf but be careful of the degree of arch
(I wish I had been more adament about it: they said the specs
	  came from "the book").
