[comp.lang.eiffel] The McCarthy award

bertrand@eiffel.UUCP (Bertrand Meyer) (06/15/90)

On May 17, 1990, Tom McCarthy, Vice President of Marketing
for Interactive, died in a plane accident.

To help keep his memory alive, we have instituted an annual
``Thomas P. McCarthy award''. The exact details still require
some ironing out, but the general idea is this: Interactive
will award a prize to the best Eiffel-related work.
The winner will be selected on the basis of scientific merit
and use of the Eiffel ideas. The competition will be open
to anyone, whether or not an actual user of Eiffel.

The winner will be selected by an international scientific
committee, currently being formed.

The award will include a stipend to present the work at an
international conference and an honorarium.

The first award will be given in October of this year.
Details on the competition will be posted on comp.lang.eiffel around
July 10.
