[comp.lang.eiffel] Polymorphic Ants

zed@mdbs.uucp (Bill Smith) (07/27/90)

As usual, Nature has managed to beat out ingenious human inventors.

One feature of many object-oriented programming languages is polymorphism.
Things that are in some ways different can appear to be the same in
the right circumstances.

In parts of India and Southeast Asia, there are species of ants
that are polymorphic. The workers of these ants mature into three
distinct categories: the minors, the medias and the majors. (I.e. the
small, medium and large.) These different categories have different
social functions in the ant colony.
