About six months ago (?) there was a discussion in this newsgroup, initiated by Burton Leathers of Cognos, concerning Cognos's rather negative experiences with Eiffel, particularly in relation to performance of big Eiffel systems. Betrand Meyer posted a reply which stated that in version 2.2 the post-processor was sufficient to deal with the performance defects. Burton Leathers raised the Eiffel performance issue again in his position paper at this year's ECOOP/OOPSLA conference. Does this refer to pre-2.2 days or does the current Eiffel implementation still have serious performance defects that have yet to be recified ? Ted Lawson

As far as we can tell, Eiffel deficiencies reported by Mr. Burton Leathers at various Conferences (SCOOP-East, SCOOP-West, SOOPPA, OOPSLA,...) refer to Eiffel 2.1 (released in July 1988). Note: Eiffel 2.2 (1989) and 2.3 (1990) releases overviews with changes and improvements may be found in the following articles: <171@eiffel.UUCP>, <172@eiffel.UUCP>, <178@eiffel.UUCP>, <440@eiffel.UUCP> -- Jean-Marc Nerson marc@eiffel.com
