RE: Sprints

They are all over the car lots here in Oregon but I haven't had a chance to
stop and take a close look at one yet.

I saw a Sprint recently. Looked very impressive. The Suzuki motor in it
should not be discounted. It is to Suzuki what the Small Block is to
Chevrolet - very reliable, well understood, easy to work on. The Briggs
and Stratton school of motor reliability.

Here we go...out here there is a regular media blitz going on about
this thing, 3 cylinders, best gas milage, "loves to run," etc.
I have heard that GM is getting them from Suzuki, and all the
ads make a big point about the price: $4949. The real curious
thing about the car is in talking to people "back home" (in Ohio)
over the 4th of July on vacation, no one seems to have heard of it
(and it is really hard to miss it out here, although I have yet
to see one in the flesh.) Anyway, has anyone else heard of this
thing (especially people not in California) or am I just seeing
things?

The Sprint is initially only being sold in the West, so I'm not
surprised the people in Ohio haven't heard about it. They are indeed
made by the motorcycle; GM seems to have a funny idea of what "running"
entails -- I'd say the Sprint is up to a brisk walk and that's about
it. Road and Track has a review in the latest issue.

One of the Chevy dealers in metro Boston advertised that they had three
Sprints available. I would assume they were for sale (as opposed to
demos for future orders).

Unfortunately, the Sprint is not all that cheap. I'd buy a Dodge Colt
(base model: $100 above Sprint) first.
