The British Anaerobic and Biomass Association Limited (BABA
Ltd) is a trade association of biomass industries in U.K.
and represents all sectors involved in biomass utilization (
both wastes and purpose grown crops) for energy production.
It has about 40 members who are involved in energy forestry,
landfill management, the development of microbial
inoculants, sewage and agricultural waste treatment and the
safe disposal of wastewaters with an emphasis on anaerobic
digestion in these processes with special reference to
pollution control and energy recovery. Members also include
energy consultants and manufacturers of combustion equipment
and engines for the utilization of wet and dry wastes and
biogas.

BABA has close links with the UK's Department of Energy and
Department of Environment Landfill Gas Standards Committee
as well as EC's DGXII Biomass Program for biological
conversion. BABA organizes workshops and publishes
proceedings and a newsletter - "The Digest". The two
workshops organized in 1988 were (a) Energy-effective
alternatives to landfilling wastes and (b) Treatment and
disposal of organic effluent - Integration of anaerobic
digetsion into waste treatment systems and secondary
treatment of anaerobic industrial residues.
