P2269@com.qz.se ("ENG-LEONG FOO ", MIRCEN-STOCKHOLM) (05/17/89)

A double subsidy system for the installation of biogas plants
in Nepal has been introduced by His Majesty's Government of
Nepal and implemented by the Agricultural Development Bank of
Nepal. This Government policy provides a 25 % subsidy on the
total cost of the digester as soon as it is installed and then
provides as much as a 50 % interest subsidy on interest paid on
the capital loan which is generally paid within 7 years.

To date, the Agricultural Development Bank has provided loans
for the establishment of 3,248 biogas plants in 51 districts.
For the fiscal year of 1988/1989, the Bank has planned to
finance 1000 biogas plants.
