[ncr.sys.unix] Differential SCSI interface

jra@lawday.Dayton.NCR.COM (John.Ackermann@Dayton.NCR.COM) (10/27/90)

I have an NCR SCSI host adapter (differential SCSI) board in my Tower. This
is the board that was designed for an external, and not internal, drive.
Can this board interface to the inexpensive SCSI drives I'm seeing advertised
advertised these days? I'm not adverse to putting together some simple glue
logic if that's necessary to convert the differential lines to single-ended.

Carrying this question on a bit further, what does a "host adapter" signify
in the SCSI world? With such an adapter, is the machine set to talk to any
SCSI device, or is there another layer of controller required?

Thanks for the info.
