A couple of customer sites of late have reported a problem with their TOWER 32/700 systems running WIN-TCP/IP, where the 2k and 4k STREAMS buffers appear to be in consistently short supply. The strstat(1) utility usually displays failures associated with these buffers. (STREAMS Buffers are allocated on a priority basis, with percentages of each buffer size allocated to low, medium, and high priority STREAMS requests. If there is a failure at any point, the failure is reported in strstat(1). This explains why one may see strstat(1) reporting failures, where the CONFIG value is higher than the MAX value.) The problem has been identified to rooted in the installation process for the "17+ User Update" software product. This product incorrectly adjusts the STRLOFRAC parameter from 80 to 1000; the cure is to change the value back to 80. A kernel relink/reboot is required to effect the change. The problem was originally reported on SPEC# 116219. Notices will be included in the product Transmittal Documents at the Software Distribution Centers to alert System Administrators to take corrective action. +---------------------------------------------------------------+ |Sam Vause, NCR Corporation, Customer Services - TOWER Support | |3325 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169 (803) 791-6953| | vause@cs-col.ColumbiaSC.NCR.COM | +---------------------------------------------------------------+ -- +---------------------------------------------------------------+ |Sam Vause, NCR Corporation, Customer Services - TOWER Support | |3325 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169 (803) 791-6953| | vause@cs-col.ColumbiaSC.NCR.COM |
