The horsepower to weight figures given are a little misleading since the 170 hp for the SVO is not measured the same as the 300 hp for the Shelby. I don't know why someone would have a 305 cu. in. motor in a real GT 350, sounds like a .030 over 302. The original 271 horse Hi pro 289 was fitted with a holley four barrel, aluminum hi rise, and tri Y headers for and output of 306 hp at the flywheel. A GT 350 without the original engine isn't worth squat, and those hi pro 289's are a rare breed these days. I wonder how the Mustang GT with the 5L HO engine compares to the SVO?? Much more reliable I bet. cheers, tektronix!tekig!david

[] Since the discussion on GT350's is going on, does anyone know the exact hp rating of a 66 mustang shelby 350 with a Paxton? I know it was called a "bolt on 200 hp", but have never heard the exact numbers. thanks in advance. Mark Longo ...!drutx!mrl

Dave' The car you are referring to is not exactly a Mustang, a Mustang specially modified by Caroll Shelby and called a Shelby GT 350. The original motor in this car was not a 305, but a 289 ci V-8 that put out 306 horsepower. In addition, Shelby modified the suspension to allow the car to hang in the corners with the 'Vettes. In all fairness to the SVO, the Shelby was an exceptional machine and the SVO would probably fair a lot better against the plain Mustang GT with its 271 HP 289 and mushy suspension. As an additional note: a guy here has a black SVO and it sure is a nice looking car. P Kelliher AT&T-ISL S Plainfield, NJ
