[gnu.ghostscript.bug] building ghostscript on XT clone

trappio@cunixc.cc.columbia.edu (Trappio Horne) (03/21/89)

Hi,

I'v been trying to grapple with a feisty ghostscript problem for two
months now (slightly longer than your average patient person.)

I could not get ghostscript ver 1.0 to run on my fountain turbo XT which
is configured with the following:

                     --640 ram
                     --video 7 vega vga card
                     --zenith flat screen vga monitor

I'v tried directly executing the gs.exe available from sun.soe.clarkson
but that hangs my machine. It was ver 1.0 and so I thought that I might
try building it from the source when it was announced 1.2 would be
available soon.

When I tried building 1.2, however, I got several Turbo C warnings that
I ignored --I did not configure a "RAMdisk" as the *.doc files
recommended because of ram considerations. As a result, most of the
source files gave me the same warnings, beginning with ghost.h (the
first include file after string.h in gs.c):

               tc warnings. . .
               warning ghost.h: undefined structure 'gs_color_s'
               warning ghost.h: undefined structure 'gs_font_s'
               warning ghost.h: undefined structure 'dict_s'
and I think warning ghost.h: undefined structure 'gs_state_s'

Lastly, at the time of compilation, I had all ghostscript source
in my /TC directiory and I edited the *.tl linker files to only
seek a few files on a much smaller (75k) RAMdisk d:

Result? . . .

My gs.exe (171k) hung like before and I hung my hat.

Any help out there for a much daunted user?
