[net.auto] SW coverage of auto racing

paulhus@euclid.DEC (Chris Paulhus 223-6871 MLO8-3/T13) (08/13/84)

Saturday night, 8/11, my favorite short wave station "Radio Earth"
(6.185 MHz 0300-0400 UTC) had an interview with a new commercial SW
station NDXE ( in Dixie) that will start broadcasting from Fla/Ala
1/1/85. Their sports coverage will feature motor racing. They already
have broadcast rights for the Sunbank 24 hour at Daytona, The Miami GP,
and The Sebring 12 hour, all IMSA events. (I guess the Nashville
Network, or some such has the NASCAR events tied up. That's all I could
get Memorial Day: Talledega, not Indy!) They didn't mention a
frequency, but their plans are for 18 hr/day of broadcasting. They are
aiming for a worldwide audience, so F 1 coverage is not too much to hope
for. Now if we could only get Can-Am, Trans-Am and Road Atlanta
   Runnoff news...
Incidently, Radio Earth's primary sponsor is the Tourist Board of
the Island of Curacao (Netherlands Antilles, just off Venezuela) which
is rumored to have a F 1 race next year.
Short wave and auto racing do mix!
