Due to a bit of emotional overcharge yesterday, when I posted the article about rec.humor.funny from the K-W Record, I neglected the headline, which was perhaps the least nice part of the story. It was: UW computer system used to send racial jokes ================= For the full article, see news.misc. Replies to this message go to the editor of the K-W record, but you MUST follow the letters to the editor rules outlined in postings to rec.humor.funny and news.misc. I have gotten copies of those letters and people have not been following the rules. The paper will discard such letters. But please people, do all you can to not blow this up further. Don't defend racism, or attack the paper with anything but reasoned criticism of their reporting. Don't say that there's other racism in the world, and that this makes net racism OK. As you all know, I have never posted a joke out of hatred. Don't try to explain the net to them. I have done this. Don't use net terms like "flame" or "rec.humor.funny." Do point out that you observed the whole thing and are aware of the full context. At all points, be calm, and reasoned, no matter what you write. And be brief. They like to see around 300 words as a typical letter. If you just want to simply support or oppose me, just do a simple note of that sort, and ask that they keep a count of such simple notes. -- Brad Templeton, Looking Glass Software Ltd. -- Waterloo, Ontario 519/884-7473
