Nf-From: hpcvra!barton Aug 21 10:30:00 1984 I purchased a 300ZX Turbo in May and have been very pleased with its performance. Having previously owned a `71 240Z, a `75 280Z and a `80 Turbo Trans Am, I feel that the Turbo Z is by far the best of these cars. The Z certainly has the best acceleration, cornering and stopping ability. In specific answer to the power question, the Turbo version will have more power than your present 280ZX. The Turbo puts out about 200 horsepower max while I think your Z delivers about 140 hp. If you decide you want the Turbo, chances are that you will also be forced to get the digital package also. All the Turbos I have seen have this "option" (mine does). Actually, I like the features supplied with the digital package. The digital MPH is very easy to read, and easier to interpret than the analog dial. The Tach provides RPM, Turbo boost, and power torque curve information all at once in an easy to read display. The only disadvantage of having the Turbo package that I can think of is that you will need to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles instead or 7500 miles. A small price to pay for the dramatically improved performance (with the Goodyear Eagle GTs on the Turbo, it actually stops in a shorter distance than the non-turbo version). In summary, I am quite pleased with my Turbo Z and would recommend it to anyone interested in this style of car. Barton Brown hplabs!hppcd!barton

Nf-From: hpcvre!jimd Aug 20 12:42:00 1984 A recent issue of Car and Driver (or was it Hot Rod) had a review of the 50th Anniversary issue of the 300ZX and said it was *MUCH* better than the vanilla version. Wish I had the bucks... Jim Donnelly hplabs!hppcd!jimd

#N:zehntel:1500002:000:954 zehntel!carol Aug 15 15:20:00 1984 I am currently shopping for a 300 ZX. Although I have driven for over 20 years, I have limited expertise buying cars and analyzing performance specs. I have a 5-year old 280 ZX which I have been completely satisfied with. It has enough power to suit me and I like its looks. These are the same reasons I am attracted to the 300. I really do need a little guidance on this one - it carries a pretty high price tag. In particular I am trying to justify the purchase of the 50th anniversary model as opposed to the vanilla model. For $9000 more, I'm not quite sure what is being offered. Turbo or non-Turbo? What advantages/disadvantages do I get with the Turbo package. Can I expect the same power that I get with my non-Turbo 1979 280 ZX? If any of you own a 300 ZX, I would like to hear about your experiences. And if anyone has information or advice for me before I make my final decision I would be very grateful.
