[rec.humor.funny] My responses to your submissions

funny@looking.on.ca (Funny Guy) (07/23/89)

In the past, I have had a policy of giving every rec.humor.funny
submission a personal reply. While some were quite terse, I still
typed in each rejection by hand to give some idea of why the joke was
not taken.

But the volume of submissions grows, and even now in the summer it's
still around 20 for every single day. It means I have personally responded
to well over 10,000 messages during the life of this group. The group
approaches it's 2nd anniversary in a couple of weeks.

My new ClariNet electronic publishing network is keeping me busy, so
I do have to slow down a bit. I regret to say that I will now be responding
to most submissions with a "form" message. I have a dozen different
messages, so the response will probably still tell you something of
why your joke was rejected. (Accepted jokes all get the same response.)

If you are unsure, read my submission guidelines again.

On the plus side, part of my ClariNet work involves negotiating access
to some excellent professional comedy for net people. The one column
am working hardest on is Dave Barry's. I will let you know if this works
out! (People submit Dave Barry stuff to me regularly, and I have to reject
it all.)

Thanks to all of you who have been kind in dealing with the notes I
have sent you. If you feel real nice, you can indicate that no rejection
notice is necessary in your message. -BT.
