My 82 S10 Chevy truck has started leaking oil out the rear main seal. It started around 28,000 miles. I've heard this is a common problem on the V-6 chevy engines. I wanted to find out if anyone else has had the same problems and what to do about it. Its going to cost around 500 bucks to get it fixed. I was wanting to know if it is a common problem with the V-6 is GM willing to cover any of the cost to get it fixed. Thanks in advance Greg Wade (317) 845-6205

[ ] Well it's sad to hear that another V6 has been bitten by the nasty rear main seal gotcha again. My '83 GMC Jimmy had the same problem, but with as many miles as I put on my truck, my rear main started leaking during the warranty period. The only way to remedy the problem was the old "pull the engine and replace" move. Not a pretty thought at 10K miles. My Father-in-Law purchased a '84 Blazer 4 months ago, and he is detecting "little drips" near the main seal. It seems as though Chevy/GMC has a fix for it, as mine has not leaked since it was replaced. If they do, then why aren't they using this new seal on all regular production??? John
