[net.auto] Convertible Z/28's

I don't remember which article stated this, but, just
as a point of interest, there were NEVER any factory
built Z/28 convertibles, from 1967 up until the present.
The article seemed to indicate that there were
convertible Z/28's made during the 1st generation
of Camaro, from 1967 through 1969. The reasoning back
then for not making the cars converitbles was that
the main reason they were built was for Trans-AM
racing (with modifications, of course), and convertibles
just didn't cut it from a stability (less body ridgidity)
and safety viewpoint. Why Chevrolet has not decided to
make convertible Z/28's (or Camaros/Berlinettas) with
the current crop ('81 through present) I do not know.
I've seen converible conversions for these cars, and
they are pretty sharp. The look a little "tacked-on", but
that's probably because they were conversions. A real
factory job would probably fit a lot better.
