[net.auto] Info Wanted on Towing With Light Trucks

dougc@orca.UUCP (08/24/84)

I want to be able to pull a 2500lb. boat. I am interested
particularly in the Chev. S-10 (After reading about the oil
leaks and other problems, the S-10 may be out of the running.
Any other comments regarding S-10 problems?), Ford Ranger, and
possibly Toyota. Anyone had any experience towing with these
trucks? Will they do an adequate job or should I be considering
a full size truck?

Thanks,

Doug Campbell

I trailer a 450 lb. sailboat with a 400 trailer behind my 81 Buick
Skylark. I have my hitch bolted on the bumper and I have air shocks.
Unless you plan on trailering a lot, you may not need all that muscle.
Think about all the time you will be driving without that boat. The
hardest thing trailering can do to a car or truck is the the things that
happen as a result of tight maneuvers like parking and backing. The
negative effects I've noticed are belts loosening and trans gasket loosening.
